Yuma is a city located in Yuma County in extreme southwest Arizona near the California and Mexico borders. The city had a population of 93,064 as of the 2010 US Census. The metropolitan Yuma area has a population of around 200,000.
There were plans for a 6,000 seat arena to be built just north of the Yuma Plains Regional Center. The arena was mentioned in an article on March 5, 2007. These plans appear to have fallen through as there is no arena at the fore mentioned location.
Yuma was awarded an expansion team in the Central Hockey League for the 2011-12 season. However, this franchise fell through as there was no adequate arena to play in.
