The West Michigan Blizzard are a professional ice hockey team based in Muskegon, Michigan. The team is a member of the All American Hockey League and began its inaugural season in October 2009 as the Detroit Hitmen. The Blizzard played their home games at LC Walker Arena.

On January 4, 2010, the franchise announced their new affiliation with the Elmira Jackals of the East Coast Hockey League[1] (higher affiliate), and on September 11, 2009 a affiliation with the Philadelphia Thunder of the United Junior Hockey League (lower affiliate).

History[]

The West Michigan Blizzard started their inaugural season in October 2009 as the Detroit Hitmen, located in Fraser, Michigan. Due to the financial issues, the team was relocated to Muskegon, Michigan on December 17, 2009. Their name was changed to the West Michigan Blizzard. Because the Elmira Jackals (West Michigan Blizzard’s affiliate) is affiliated with the Binghamton Senators (AHL) and the Ottawa Senators (NHL), the West Michigan Blizzard is the only AAHL team that has an NHL affiliation. [2]

The team moved to Dyer, Indiana in 2010 to become the Indiana Blizzard.
