Thunder Bay Region

The Thunder Bay Amateur Hockey Association governed amateur hockey in the northwestern region of the province of Ontario and was part of the Canadian Amateur Hockey Association.

The origins of the association date back to the Twin Cities Amateur Hockey League and the Thunder Bay Amateur Hockey League with the Thunder Bay Amateur Hockey Association (TBAHA) forming in 1915, TBAHA became a member Branch of Hockey Canada in 1918.

In 1970, the Branch was divided into three zones; East of Thunder Bay, Thunder Bay (Central) and West of Thunder Bay, which still exist today. In 1984 the branch opened its first office on East Victoria Avenue in Thunder Bay.  In 1999 the association changed its name to Hockey Northwestern Ontario (HNO) to better reflect the geographical area it serves.
