The Steve "Boomer" Hawrysh Memorial Award is awarded annually to the player judged to be the Most Valuable Player in the Manitoba Junior Hockey League.
Steve Hawrysh reached a milestone in 1992, 60 consecutive years of hockey involvement in Dauphin.
As a player, He was a member of the powerhouse intermediate Kings of the early 50's. He began coaching in 1952, and in '72 guided the junior Kings to a Manitoba championship. He was one of the architects of the new Manitoba Junior Hockey League (1968), and was instrumental in bringing junior hockey to Dauphin.
Past winners include Grant Ledyard, Mike Ridley and 3 time Stanley Cup winner Brian Engblom.
