The Spirit River Rangers is a Canadian men's Senior ice hockey team from Spirit River, Alberta, Canada that play in The North Peace Hockey League (NPHL).
History[]
The Spirit River Rangers joined the newly formed South Peace Hockey league in 1954 . In October 1955 the Spirit River Arena called Ice Palace roof collapsed due to snowfall. This ended the Rangers season and caused them to go on hiatus until the Arena was Fixed. The Rangers Won the South Peace Hockey League Championship in the 1963-64 season. After the 1965-66 SPHL Season the Rangers folded due to the team not having Artificial Ice in the local arena.
The Spirit River Rangers joined the Beaver Hockey League in 1980-81. The Rangers Played in the Beaver Hockey League until 1983 when the league ceased.
The Spirit River Rangers Rejoined the South Peace Hockey League in 1983. The Rangers continued to play in the SPHL until 1987 when the League restructured and became the Central Peace Hockey League. The Rangers played in the Central Peace Hockey League from 1987 to 1991
The Spirit River Rangers Joined the North Peace Hockey League for the 1991-92 Hockey season. The Ranger have had great success in the League having won 11 League Championships starting in 1997-98. The Rangers Having Won 11 League Chanpionships are tied with The Peace River Stampeders for third most all time behind The High Prairie Regals and The Grimshaw Huskies at 13. The Rangers took a leave of absence in 2017 due to lack of player interest.
The Spirit River Rangers Returned to the North Peace Hockey League for the 2022-23 Season Under new team Leadership. In the 2022-23 The Rangers Tied the NPHL record by winning their 14th straight playoff series with the Peace River Stampeders. [1]
