Shauna Denis

Playing career 2003–present

Shauna Denis has competed for the McGill Martlets and was their team captain during the 2006-07 and 2007-08 seasons. She was the first Martlets player to receive the Marion Hillard Award in 2008.

Playing career

In her senior season (2007-08), her twenty one points in 18 QSSF league games ranked third in Quebec conference scoring. In CIS National tournament play, she had 22 goals and 49 points in her first 39 tournament contests overall. During the first 122 games of her Martlets career, Denis had a career total of 67 goals and 92 assists for 159 career points.

As a freshman, she won the Martlets Most Improved Player. She followed by winning team MVP honours in the 2005-06 season. Denis is a three-time conference all-star and was named team captain of the inaugural CIS all-star squad. The squad competed against Canada's national under-22 squad at York University, in August 2007.

Charitable work

While at McGill, she participated in various charitable efforts including: McGill's First-Year Buddy Program, Project Horizons, (a tutoring program), Mentors in Motion, (working to increase self-confidence in overweight children). In addition, Denis has volunteered with the McGill Varsity Sports Council's Community Outreach Committee, participating in events such as Raise-a-Reader Day and March of 1000 Umbrellas. She also visited local elementary schools on behalf of the McGill Right to Play Champions program.
