Serhiy Haiduchenko (Ukrainian: Сергій Гайдученко; Russian: Сергей Гайдученко, Sergei Gayduchenko; born June 6, 1989) is a Ukranian-Russian professional ice hockey goaltender currently playing for Lokomotiv Yaroslavl of the Kontinental Hockey League.
Early career Edit
Gayduchenko began his career in Kiev, playing for the junior team at the Ldinka Hockey School. His first coach was Anatolii Donika, a successful former defenseman of the team Sokil Kyiv. Scouts from Yaroslavl took notice of his play, and invited him to move there and join the organization.
International Play Edit
Team Ukraine has approached Gayduchenko to join, but so far he as only rebuffed any offers. His current intentions are to play for Russia's team. Since he had only held a Russian passport for less than 2 years, he did not qualify to play for the Russian team under IIHF rules until after June 24, 2008, though he played with the Russian Under-18 squad in two non-IIHF events prior to this. Since since becoming eligible, however, he has not played for Russia.
