Sarah Foss (from North Reading) is an ice hockey player for the St. Mary’s Lady Spartans in the Massachusetts Interscholastic Athletic Association (MIAA). She was featured in the Faces in the Crowd section of Sports Illustrated on February 14, 2011.


Playing careerEdit

In 2009-10, Foss was the goaltender for the St. Mary’s club that won its third straight state title on March 18, 2010.[1] During the 2010-11 season, Foss, a sophomore goalie at St. Mary's of Lynn, Massachusetts had 35 saves in a 4-2 win over Hingham on February 6, 2011.[2] The win extended the Spartans' unbeaten streak to 91 games, a national high school girls' hockey record.[3]


Sports IllustratedEdit

Sarah Foss was featured in the February 14, 2011 issue of Sports Illustrated. Her accomplishments were part of the publication’s “Faces in the Crowd” section. Prior to the release of the magazine, Foss had a 36-0-4 career record in net for the Lady Spartans (who had a 90-game undefeated streak). In addition, Foss has eight shutouts (among 11 victories) and a goals-against-average of 0.52 in 2010-11 at the time of publication.


She is the second St. Mary’s girls hockey player to be honored by Sports Illustrated. Abby Gauthier was recognized in “Faces in the Crowd” in the Feb. 4, 2008 edition of the magazine after becoming the all-time leading scorer in state history.[4]


OtherEdit

Foss is also a member of the school’s lacrosse team that had an 18-0 record in the 2009-10 regular season.
