Ryerson ram 2011b

"Rams" is the name of the sports teams of Ryerson University, located in Toronto, Ontario. They are members of Ontario University Athletics (OUA) and Canadian Interuniversity Sport (CIS).

HistoryEdit

The university started as the "Ryerson Institute of Technology" in 1948 and changed its name to "Ryerson Polytechnical Institute" in 1966 and then "Ryerson Polytechnic University" in 1993. The current name was adopted in 2001.

The Ryerson Rams hockey team started in 1949-50. There are no Wikia links to any of their seasons until the 1964-65 season of the Ontario Intercollegiate Athletic Association (OIAA). The Ryserson Alumni Site claims that the team won championships in the "MCL" in 1952 and the "COHA" in 1954 and 1956. It also claims that hey won OIAA titles in 1959 and 1963. However, there are no Wikia links for any OIAA competition before 1964-65, and there are no links to leages called "MCL" or "COHA".

In any event, Ryerson remained in the OIAA until the conference ended in 1970-71. In 1971-72 they joined the Ontario Universities Athletic Association (OUAA) once the Ontario and Quebec conferences were re-organized along provincial lines.
