Ronald Hainsey (born March 24, 1981) is an American professional ice hockey defenseman currently playing for the Winnipeg Jets of the National Hockey League (NHL).

Playing careerEdit

He was drafted 1st round, 13th overall by the Montreal Canadiens in the 2000 NHL Entry Draft, from collegiate team the University of Massachusetts Lowell. He has played with AHL teams, Quebec Citadelles and the Hamilton Bulldogs.

After spending 3 seasons in the Canadiens organization was claimed off of waivers on November 29, 2005, by the Columbus Blue Jackets,[1] where he established himself into a leading two-way defenseman.

On July 2, 2008, the Atlanta Thrashers signed Ron Hainsey to a five-year, $22.5 million contract.[2] He scored 6 goals to go along with 33 assists in his first season in Atlanta.

PersonalEdit

He is best friends with New York Islanders goaltender Rick DiPietro, both of whom were drafted in the 2000 NHL Entry Draft.

He hails from a very small town in Connecticut, Bolton, and his parents still live there. He and his wife Hayley still reside there during the off-season.

He is the first baseman for West Reach, a softball team hailing from Bolton, CT.
