Philip J. "Phil" Stein[1] (September 13, 1913 — April 4, 1987) was a professional ice hockey goaltender who played in one National Hockey League game for the Toronto Maple Leafs during the 1939–40 NHL season.

He played junior hockey for the Toronto Marlboros from 1930 to 1933. He spent most of his pro career with the Syracuse Stars.

Stein replaced the injured Turk Broda on January 18, 1940, against the New York Americans as the Toronto Maple Leafs played to a 2-2 tie.

After that game, Stein played in the minor pros until 1942 when he played a season with the senior Toronto Staffords and retired.
