Overview[]

The Pacific West Athletic Association (PWAA, or PacWest) is the governing body for collegiate sports in British Columbia. Founded in 1969-70 as the “Totem Conference”, it was renamed “Totem Colleges Athletic Association” (TCAA), became the British Columbia Colleges Athletic Association in 1986, and then the Pacific Western Athletic Association in 2011. It sanctioned a hockey competition between 1971-79 and 1983-89.

The PWAA is affiliated with the Canadian Colleges Athletic Association (CCAA), the second tier of university/college sport in Canada. The CCAA has not held a national hockey playoff since 2001. However, the Alberta Colleges Athletic Conference (ACAC) continues to operate, the British Columbia Intercollegiate Hockey League (BCIHL) is open to college teams, and the Réseau du sport étudiant du Québec (RSEQ) operates a league of mostly Cégep teams.
