The Kraut Line - Schmidt. Bauer, & Dumart

History[]

The Ottawa RCAF Flyers were a senior team. The RCAF stood for the Royal Canadian Air Force,

They played in the Ottawa City Senior League from 1934-35 through 1942-43 (except for 1936-37 & 1937-38). After that the Flyers were in the Eastern Canada Senior Hockey League from 1949-50 through 1950-51.

In 1941-42 they became the first and only Ottawa District team to win the Allan Cup. In this they were helped immensely by the enlistments of Bobby Bauer, Woody Dumart, and Milt Schmidt (the Kraut Line) in the RCAF. This enabled them to join the Flyers late in the season. These three National Hockey League stars played a big part in the Flyers' Allan Cup victory.

The Flyers won the league title the next year in 1942-43 but this time lost the final in the 1942-43 Eastern Canada Allan Cup Playoffs to the Quebec League's Ottawa Commandos.

They won one Eastern Canada Senior Hockey League title in 1950-51 but lost the final in the 1950-51 Ottawa District Senior Playoffs.
