Corcoran began his National Hockey League career with the Boston Bruins in 1949 and also played with the Detroit Red Wings and Chicago Black Hawks. He left the NHL following the 1956 season and retired from hockey in 1966.
He played junior hockey for the St. Michaels Majors and the St Catharines TeePees and signed as a free agent with the Boston Bruins in 1950. Corcoran only played in eight games for the Bruins before being traded as part of a nine player trade in 1955 to the Detroit Red Wings.
He played in the 1955 All Star Game and a couple of games for the Wings before being traded early in the 1954-55 season before being traded to the Chicago Black Hawks. Corcoran got into 23 games for the Hawks that season. That marked the end of his NHL career, which had a total of 29 games with one goal and three assists.
He continued in the minor pros until his retirement in 1966.
