The Mississippi Surge are a professional ice hockey team in the Southern Professional Hockey League (SPHL). They play their home games at the Mississippi Coast Coliseum in Biloxi, Mississippi, United States.

The Southern Professional Hockey League (SPHL) Board of Governors approved an application from the Coast Hockey LLC ownership group to operate in Biloxi, Mississippi, United States, in October 2009.

The group secured a lease from the Mississippi Coast Coliseum and got final approval from by the SPHL's Board of Governors on May 7, 2009.

The team asked the hockey fans to help name the team by suggesting names on the website www.nameourteam.com. The new name, Mississippi Surge, logo and colors was introduced at a press conference on June 17, 2009 at the Mississippi Coast Coliseum by team president Bill Yates. The name was selected from more than 3,500 entries from Coast hockey fans.
