Men's Division III is a set of schools and conferences that sponsor men's hockey and abide by the National Collegiate Athletic Association's rules and regulations for Division III ice hockey. There are currently nine conferences that sponsor Division III hockey:

For the 2013-14 The Midwest Collegiate Hockey Association (MCHA) merged with  the NCHA after the NCHA lost most of its members to the newly formed WIAC.

These nine conferences represent all 76 teams that compete at the Division III level in men's hockey. Seven of those teams are from Division II schools that compete in Division III leagues to fill out their schedules, as there is no Division II NCAA championship in ice hockey. Such teams are ineligible for postseason play.  The only conference at the D-II level is the Northeast-10 which has several of its members playing in Division III conferences but they participate in the NE-10 tourament at the end of the season.  There are two schools that are presently playing as Division III independents for the 2015-16 season.  The Daniel Webster Eagles are a newly elevated to varsity status program and the SUNY-Canton Kangaroos have been in the process of elevating their program from a club level to a varsity sport since the 2012-13 season and are planning on joining the SUNYAC in the near future.

For 2015-16, the Aurora Spartans joined the NCHA after playing as an independent team for the 2014-15 season while elevating their program to varsity status and the Beverly, Massachusetts based Endicott Gulls joined the ECAC Northeast as a newly formed varsity program.

For 2016-17, the Lebanon Valley Flying Dutchmen are re-starting their program after dropping it after the 2009-10 season.  They will be rejoining the ECAC West along with the Stevenson Mustangs, which is the newly formed men's program at Stevenson University based out of the Baltimore suburb of Owings Mills, Maryland. The MASCAC is adding the Danbury, Connecticut based Western Connecticut Colonials.

Division III represents a commitment by member schools to place academic achievement ahead of athletic success. Athletic scholarships are not allowed, and
