The Melvindale Lakers were a Tier II Junior "A" team. The team played in the Great Lakes Junior Hockey League for the 1982-83 season. The team was originally based in Waterford Township, Michigan for the 1981-82 season and was named the Waterford Lakers. The team relocated to Melvindale, Michigan for the 1982-83 season and were renamed the Melvindale Lakers. The team then folded prior to the start of the 1983-84 season. The city would get another franchise in the league in 1988-89.
