The arena is a major venue in the area for numerous concerts and live touring productions.
Originally called the E Center, West Valley City sold the naming rights to the "E Center" to Maverik convenience stores in 2010.
The venue's primary tenant is the ECHL Utah Grizzlies, and it served as the main venue for ice hockey at the Winter Olympic Games. Canada beat the United States in both the women's and men's gold medal games.
Beginning with the 2010 season, the E Center will be the new home for the re-launched Arena Football League (2010) version of the Utah Blaze (formerly the Utah Valley Thunder) that ceased operations when the original Arena Football League (1987-2008) declared bankruptcy and consequently folded.
The PBR hosted a Built Ford Tough Series event at the E Center in 2007; it was the PBR's first stop in the Salt Lake City area since 2000, when they visited the Delta Center.
Naming rights Edit
Maverik operates over 210 convenience stores that sell gas and fuel, fresh food from its bakeries, beverages, and other merchandise in the intermountain region, including the states of Utah, Idaho, Wyoming, Arizona, Nevada and Montana and Colorado.
Centennial Management Group, along with West Valley City, announced that the new partnership and naming rights for the building formerly known as the E Center that, in an agreement with Maverik, the arena would be renamed Maverik Center. The sponsorship deal is a multi-year agreement, which includes exclusive sponsorship and advertising rights and prominent signage on the exterior and interior of the building. Additionally, the venue will feature Maverik's proprietary "adventure theme", a new Maverik concession outlet, and will also exclusively sell a number of Maverik proprietary products.
