Matt Generous (born May 4, 1985) is an American professional ice hockey defenseman who plays for the Portland Pirates of the American Hockey League (AHL).

On April 1, 2009, Generous signed a one-year, entry level contract with the Buffalo Sabres of the National Hockey League (NHL).

In the 2008-2009 season, Matt Generous was named the ECAC’s Outstanding Defensive Defenseman. Generous had 15 points (7+8) and was +5 in 33 games his senior year. Generous finished his four-year college career at St. Lawrence University with 56 points (18+38) in 139 games, and was a four-time member of the ECAC All-Academic Team.
