The career statistics section is essentially a table where all the career stats of a player are collected and displayed so that the reader gets a better idea of what this player achieved on the ice during his playing days.

The base codeEdit

The code for the table goes like this:

{| cellpadding="3" cellspacing="1" border="0" style="font-size: 95%; text-align: center; -moz-border-radius-topright:7px; border:#XXXXXX solid 1px; border-collapse: collapse;"
|- ALIGN="center" bgcolor="#FFFFFF"
| colspan="100" bgcolor="#XXXXXX" | [[Image:Flag_of_COUNTRY.gif|left|20px]] <span style="color:#XXXXXX">'''''CAREER STATISTICS'''''
|-
|-
| colspan="100" bgcolor="#XXXXXX" |
|-
| colspan="100" bgcolor="#XXXXXX" |
|-
| colspan="100" bgcolor="#XXXXXX" |
|- ALIGN="center" bgcolor="#e0e0e0"
! rowspan="2" |Season
! rowspan="2" |Team
! rowspan="2" |League
! rowspan="99" bgcolor="#ffffff" |
! colspan="5" | Regular season
! rowspan="99" bgcolor="#ffffff" |
! colspan="5" | [[Playoffs]]
|- bgcolor="#e0e0e0"
! GP || G || A || PTS || PIM || GP || G || A || PTS || PIM<ref>[http:www.linktoreference.com Reference for the stats used]</ref>
|-
|}

Looks like gibberish? Let's take all the commands one by one and see what result they trigger:

  • Cellpadding="3": tells the distance (in pixel) between the text in a cell and the wall of the cell. This number shouldn't be modified.
  • Cellspacing="1": tells the distance (in pixel) between adjacent cells. This number shouldn't be modified.
  • Border="0": tells the width of the border of each cell of the table. This number shouldn't be modified.
  • style"": announces the general style of the table fonts. This command isn't stand alone and requires some commands between the "", namely here:
font-size: 95% : tells the text in the cells of the table. This number shouldn't be modified.
text-align: center : tells whether the text is set against the left wall of the cell, against the right wall or centered within the cell (this latter case applies to this table). This number shouldn't be modified.
  • -moz-border-radius-topright:7px: this is an element of style for Mozilla Firefox browsers only. It will round up the upper right corner of the table. The number is the radius of the circle that forms the round corner and shouldn't be modified.
  • border:#XXXXXX solid 1px: this is the first customizable variable of the table. The only part that should be changed is the XXXXXX, which represents the color of the outer border of the table, expressed in hexadecimals. This color should match the prescribed color for the nationality of the player the table is made for. Please see Manual of style/Career statistics#National Color Standards for the standard color this variable must take for each country.
  • border-collapse: collapse : tells the common properties of the border separating two adjacent cells. Here, the collapse means that adjacent cells will share the same border. This value should not be modified.
  • ALIGN="center" bgcolor="#FFFFFF" : ALIGN="center" calls the text alignment in the upcoming cells. This shouldn't be modified. bgcolor="#FFFFFF" tells the table's background color (white). It shouldn't be modified.
  • colspan="100" bgcolor="#XXXXXX" | [[Image:Flag_of_COUNTRY.gif|left|20px]] <span style="color:#XXXXXX">'''''CAREER STATISTICS''''' :
colspan="100" indicates the width of the column of cells to be created. It shouldn't be modified.
bgcolor="XXXXXX" can and should be modified. It calls the color for the background of the table header. It too should match the preestablished National Standards.
[[Image:Flag_of_COUNTRY.gif|left|20px]] displays a small flag of the nationality of the player. You should replace COUNTRY by the name of the country the player comes from. The correct link to the flag can be found here.
<span style="color:#XXXXXX">: This command changes the color of the "CAREER STATISTICS" text. Here too, you should follow the National Color Standards.
  • colspan="100" bgcolor="#XXXXXX" : this line is repeated thrice and should be left as such. It renders three horizontal lines. You can however replace the XXXXXX by the appropriate code of the National Color Standards.
  • ALIGN="center" bgcolor="#e0e0e0": this line calls for the format of the cells to come. This shouldn't be modified.
! rowspan="2" |Season</nowiki>
! rowspan="2" |Team</nowiki>
! rowspan="2" |League</nowiki>
! rowspan="99" bgcolor="#ffffff" | ! colspan="5" | Regular season ! rowspan="99" bgcolor="#ffffff" | ! colspan="5" | Playoffs

This part separates the table into five columns, associated respectively to the season, the team for which the player played on that season, the league in which that team played, regular season statistics and playoffs statistics. There is nothing to modify here.

|- bgcolor="#e0e0e0"</nowiki>
! GP || G || A || PTS || PIM || GP || G || A || PTS || PIM

This part subsequently separates the previous five columns into more sub-columns into which the statistics themselves are to be entered season-after-season.

  • Finally, <ref>[http://www.linktoreference.com Reference for the stats used]</ref> adds a reference at the bottom of the page to the place where you have taken the statistics from the table. http://www.linkofreference.com is to be replaced by the address of the website where the stats originate, if it applies. If the stats come from a book, erase that part. Reference for the stats used can either be the name of the book where the stats come from, or a description of the web link in case the data comes from internet.

Exemple of the tableEdit

All of these codes, whit the Romanian National Standards applied, gives a table like this:

Flag of Romania
CAREER STATISTICS
Season Team League Regular season Playoffs
GP G A PTS PIM GP G A PTS PIM[1]
2000 Romania WJC D 4 5 3 8 2
1999-00 Steaua Bucuresti ROM 2 1 1 2 5 3 2 5 7 4

How to add data into the tableEdit

Just copy this line of code as needed after the last line of the base code and replace the variables by the appropriate values:

|[[XXXX-XX LEAGUE INITIALS season|XXXX-XX]] || [[TEAM]] || [[LEAGUE INITIALS]] || GP|| G|| A|| PTS|| PIM|| PGP|| PG|| PA|| PPTS|| PPIM
|-

  • XXXX-XX is the years of the season (for instance, 1999-00).
  • LEAGUE INITIALS are the initials of the league the player played in (e.g. NHL, KHL, NLA, etc. If the league lacks such initials (e.g. Elitserien, SM-Liiga, etc), write the full name.
  • TEAM is the name of the teamfor which the player played that season.
  • GP is the number of games the player played in the regular season for the team.
  • G is the number of goals the player scored in the regular season for the team.
  • A is the number of assists the player scored in the regular season for the team.
  • PTS is the number of points the player scored in the regular season for the team.
  • PIM is the number of penalty minutes the player scored in the regular season for the team.
  • PGP is the number of playoffs games the player played in the regular season for the team.
  • PG is the number of playoffs goals the player scored in the regular season for the team.
  • PA is the number of playoffs assists the player scored in the regular season for the team.
  • PPTS is the number of playoffs points the player scored in the regular season for the team.
  • PPIM is the number of playoffs penalty minutes the player scored in the regular season for the team.

If the player has played for two or more teams during a season, add a line for each team he played.

If there is no data for a particular statistics (for instance, penalty minutes), enter the following code: &nbsp;. It will leave a blank space.

If the player played for his national team (like the fictive player of the exemple above), use the following line:

|[[XXXX World Championship|XXXX]] || [[NATIONAL TEAM|COUNTRY]] || [[World Championship|WC]] || GP|| G|| A|| PTS|| PIM||  ||  ||  ||  ||
|-

The same code can be used for Olympic Games. Simply replace "World Championship" and "WC" by "Olympics".

National Color StandardsEdit

Career statistics tables of every player of the same country should be homogenous, i.e. they should all have the same pattern of colors. This section gives you the hexadecimal codes for each required color, the appropriate national flag link and a look of what the table would look like.

Please note that while most of the time these colours fit the national flag, at times, they don't fit at all. This is made to reflect the actual colors of the national team, who may have choosen those colors for whatever reason.
