The following players have been officially named as captains and alternate captains of their National Hockey League (NHL) teams.

Captains Edit

Twenty-eight of the thirty NHL teams currently have a captain. The two teams without a captain are the Carolina Hurricanes and Toronto Maple Leafs. The longest currently serving captain is Shane Doan of the Arizona Coyotes, who has held the role since 2003. On October 5, 2016, Connor McDavid was named captain of the Edmonton Oilers, making him the youngest captain in Oilers and NHL history. At 19 years and 266 days, McDavid was 20 days younger than Gabriel Landeskog was when he was named captain of the Colorado Avalanche.
