Bouvrette played one game in the National Hockey League for the New York Rangers during the 1942-43 NHL season. His NHL rights were owned by the Montreal Canadiens who agreed to loan Bouvrette to the Rangers to replace the injured Jimmy Franks.

He played junior hockey for Montreal St Francois from 1931 to 1934. From 1934 to 1938 Bouvrette was with the senior Lafontaine Bleus and then from 1938 to 1941 with the Montreal Concordia Civics.

In 1942 He joined the Quebec Aces and, except for his NHL stint, played with them until 1947. He had his best year in 1943-44, when he won the Byng of Vimy Trophy as league most valuable player and the Allan Cup.
