Leah Sulyma (born July 26, 1989) was an Aboriginal Canadian women's ice hockey player that competed for the Northeastern Huskies of the NCAA.

Playing career

At the age of 15, she left home and moved to Edmonton, Alberta. For the next three years she played for girls programs in New Serepta, Spruce Grove and St. Albert, Alberta. Playing with St. Albert in 2006-07, she posted a 9-2-5 record, a 2.06 goals against and a .938 save percentage. Sulyma can also boast a gold, silver and bronze medal at the 2002, 2004 and 2006 Arctic Winter Games with her Northwest Territories team.

Canada Winter Games

Sulyma participated in the 2007 Canada Winter Games with the Northwest Territories. During the competition, Sulyma recorded 90-save and 104-save games (a 90-save game against Manitoba and a 104-save game against Alberta).

In a 6-0 loss to Manitoba on March 5, Sulyma stopped 86 of 92 shots. Manitoba was only ahead 1-0 after one period as Sulyma kept the NWT in the game. On March 8, 2007, she helped her team to its first-ever win at the Canada Winter Games as NWT defeated Yukon by a 4-1 count. In the final contest at the 2007 Canada Winter Games, Sulyma had another game of over 60 saves as Alberta defeated NWT by an 8-0 tally.

NCAA

She joined the Northeastern Huskies in autumn of 2007. Sulyma recorded 40 or more saves seven times during her freshman campaign. In 20 appearances, Sulyma made 30 or more saves, including a streak of eight-straight contests from December 2 to January 26 (which tied a school record). Her first collegiate win came with 31 saves at Providence on November 6, 2007. By season's end, she was ranked first in Hockey East and fourth in the NCAA in saves with 973. Her .913 conference save percentage ranked in the top 20 in the NCAA. In addition, she set the Huskies freshman record for saves in a season.

Leah Sulyma stopped 61 of 67 shots in two games the week of January 31, 2010. In addition to both shootout attempts in the opening round of the Beanpot on Feb. 2. Sulyma has now taken home the honor three times this season. Sulyma turned aside 31 shots on Feb. 2 vs. Boston University, helping Northeastern to its first Beanpot final in six years.
