Layla Marvin (born March 8, 1993)[1] has competed for the United States in international tournaments.
Playing career[]
High school[]
In the quarterfinal round of the Minnesota state Class A girls hockey tournament, (played February 24 at the Xcel Energy Center), Marvin scored a hat trick as Warroad defeated Chisago Lakes by an 11-1 mark. [2] Marvin was instrumental as Warroad finished the year with a 28-1-1 record as Warroad won the state title.[3] In the state championship game, Marvin scored the game winning goal against the Breck Warriors as Warroad won by a 3-1 mark.[4] Marvin was named one of the semifinalists for the 2011 Ms. Hockey Award. NCAA[]
On December 14, 2010, she committed to play college hockey beginning in 2011-12 for the University of North Dakota.[6]
USA hockey[]
On July 30, 2010, USA Hockey named Marvin to the 21-player 2010 U.S. Women's Under-18 Select Team. The team participated in both the 2010 USA Hockey Women's National Festival and the 2010 Under-18 Series.[7] At the 2011 IIHF Under 18 worlds, Marvin tied Alex Carpenter for the team lead in goals with six in five games.[8] At the 2011 IIHF Under 18 world championships, she won the gold medal. Of note, she scored the game-winning goal in a 5-2 victory over Canada in the championship game in Stockholm, Sweden.[9]

Personal[]
Marvin comes from a hockey family. Her father, David played hockey at the University of North Dakota. Her cousin, Gigi Marvin competed for the 2010 U.S. Olympic Women’s Ice Hockey Team and played for the University of Minnesota. Marvin also has cousins who have played hockey at Dartmouth College, Michigan State University, North Dakota and St. Cloud State University. Her grandfather, Cal Marvin, coached the 1958 U.S. Men’s National Ice Hockey Team, managed the 1965 U.S. Men’s National Ice Hockey Team and was inducted into the United States Hockey Hall of Fame in 1982.
