The Knights, like several other member clubs of the BUIHA, are made up of players, 1st year alumni and staff from more than one higher education establishment. Most of the players are affiliated with either The University of Kent, Christ Church University, The University of Greenwich and The University for the Creative Arts (Kent Campus')
Formed in Summer of 2009 Kent Knights drew their players from the Kent Inline Hockey Team which was already well established at Kent University. However the step across from inline to ice had its problems with locating a suitable ice rink at which to train and play games whilst paying for the rent on a very low starting budget. For the 2009-2010 season Kent Knights were forced to travel to Streatham Ice Rink in South London and share the ice with the Imperial College Devils, whilst having Gillingham Ice Rink to play their local games. The Knights did enjoy relative success in their first year in the BUIHA and showed their potential during that years Cup Competition held in Sheffield. Many opposing player were "Rooped"
In the second season the Knights drew even more success, with the club growing and attracting more experience from other teams. With the introduction of players from Greenwich university, the Knights went on to finish 3rd in BUIHA's southern division 2 behind eventual playoff winners the Bristol Lions and The Nottingham Mavericks. Kent enjoyed a successful tournament at nationals finishing in the middle of the group.
