High schoolEdit

In her senior year, the center was captain at North Smithfield High. On January 22, 2011, she scored four times in a 5-2 victory over Cranston Co-op to become the state's first girl to reach 100 goals. Her first goal of the game (97th career goal) set the girls record for most goals scored in a career.[2] Of note, the game took place hours after her father had suffered a minor stroke. Her first goal gave Kayla the career record in Rhode Island; her last took her to the century mark.
