Kaleigh Fratkin (born March 24, 1992) is a women's ice hockey player competing for the Boston University Terriers.
Playing career[]
During the 2008-09 season, she was a member of the BC Female Midget AAA Champions, Vancouver Fusion. [1] At the age of 17, she earned a spot on the Vancouver North West Giants of the British Columbia Major Midget Leauge. It was a full contact league and the highest level of competition for 15-17 year-old males. Fratkin was the first female to have competed at this level. [2] With the Giants, she won the 2010 BC Provincial Championship.
Team BC[]
Fratkin participated for Team British Columbia at the 2007 Canada Winter Games. With Team BC, she participated in three consecutive Canadian Under 18 National Championships.
Hockey Canada[]
In August 2008, she was part of the Canadian National Women’s Under-18 Team, sweeping a three-game series against the USA. Some of her teammates included future Senior National team members Brianne Jenner and Marie-Philip Poulin, along with future NCAA Frozen Four champions Breann Frykas, and Jessica Wong. In autumn2008, she participated in the Hockey Canada Under 18 strength, conditioning and skating camp. [3]
Fratkin won a silver medal with Team Canada at the 2009 IIHF World Women's U18 Championship . In the gold medal game, Fratkin had no points but accumulated four penalty minutes.[4] In August 2009, she was the only player from British Columbia selected to the Canadian National Women Under 18 Team for an exhibition series. Fratkin competed in a three game exhibition versus the United States in Calgary from August 24-27, 2009.
She was a member of Canada’s National Women’s Development Team that won a gold medal at the 2015 Nations Cup (formerly known as the Meco Cup).[5]
NCAA[]
She joined the Boston University Terriers in the autumn of 2010, part of a recruiting class along with such stars as Marie-Philip Poulin and Catherine Ward. Fratkin participated in all 38 games while accumulating 10 points. In her NCAA debut on October 2, she registered her first NCAA point[6]. In the game, she would end up accumulating the first two points of her career (both assists), in a win versus North Dakota. A contest versus the Northeastern Huskies on February 11, 2011 resulted in the first goal of her NCAA career. Her longest scoring streak of the season came from February 18 to March 5, respectively.
In the early part of the season, junior defender Kasey Boucher was Fratkin’s defensive partner. With injuries to Marie-Philip Poulin and Taylor Holze in February 2011, BU head coach Brian Durocher chose Fratkin to play as a forward. Her first collegiate goal came on February 11, 2011 against the Northeastern Huskies. Of note, she scored the goal while participating on a line with leading scorer Jenn Wakefield and senior Jillian Kirchner. [7]
During the 2011-12 season, Fratkin recorded two assists in an October 15 victory against Union. One week later, she assisted on Jenn Wakefield’s game winning goal in a 3-2 win versus the St. Lawrence Skating Saints. Her first goal of the season was scored versus New Hampshire on November 12, 2011.

Personal[]
While at Burnaby Central High School, Fratkin participated in soccer and lacrosse. With the soccer team, she led them to the 2008 BC Provincial Championships. As a member of the lacrosse team, she was part of a BC Provincial Championship team in 2009. Her brother Jesse plays hockey for the Brown Bears of the ECAC, while another brother, Casey, competes for Wesleyan University.
