Playing career 1997–present

Jonathan Phillips (born on 14 July, 1982 in Cardiff) is a Welsh professional ice hockey right winger currently playing with the Sheffield Steelers of the EIHL Series.

Club career[]

Phillips began his senior career in the 1997-98 season when he played 19 regular season games and 7 play-off games with the Cardiff Rage of the BNL and 13 games with the Cardiff Devils under-19 team.

Phillips then played the 1998-99 season with the Cardiff Rage of the ED1.

In the 1999-00 season played Phillips with the Cardiff Devils of the BISL.

In the following season, Phillips played 34 regular season games and 2 play-off games with the Cardiff Devils of the BISL, 12 regular season games and 10 play-off games with the Basingstoke Bison of the BNL and 5 regular season games and 7 play-off games with the Cardiff Satans.

In the 2001-02 season played Phillips with the Milton Keynes Kings of the BNL.

In 2002 moved Phillips back to the Cardiff Devils playing in the BNL.

Phillips stayed with the Cardiff Devils now playing in the EIHL for the 2003-04 season. He played 56 regular season games and 4 play-off games with the Cardiff Devils in this season and scored most goals (17) among the British U23s of the EIHL. In this season, he also played 1 game with the Peterborough Phantoms of the EPIHL.

Phillips then spent two next seasons with the Cardiff Devils of the EIHL. In the 2005-06 season became Phillips the EIHL Cup champion.

In 2006 - 2020 played Phillips exclusively with the Sheffield Steelers of the EIHL being the team's captain in all seasons except the 2006-07 and 2013-14 seasons when he was the alternate captain. In the 2007-08 season became Phillips the EIHL Play-off champion. One season later, he became both EIHL champion and EIHL Play-off champion. In the 2010-11 season, he became the EIHL champion again. In the 2013-14 season became Phillips the EIHL Play-off champion. In next two seasons became Phillips the EIHL champion. In the 2016-17 season became Phillips the EIHL Play-off champion again. In the 2019-20 season, he became the EIHL Cup champion.

Due to delayed start of the British 2020-21 season began Phillips this season with the EHF Passau Black Hawks of the Oberliga. He played there 8 games before he returned back to the Sheffield Steelers of the EIHL Series (shortened substitute of the EIHL) to become their captain again. He finished there the season with 11 games played. In this season, he also became the NIHL Cup champion with the Sheffield Steeldogs. He is currently signed with the Sheffield Steelers until the end of the 2020-21 season.

International career[]

Phillips played with the British National Team at the 1999 World U18 Championship "Pool B", 2000 World Junior Championship "Pool C" (winning there bronze), 2000 European U18 Championship Division I, 2001 and 2002 World Junior Championship Division II, 2003, 2004, 2005, 2006, 2007, 2008, 2010, 2011 World Championships Division I (winning silver at the 2011 tournament), 2012, 2013 and 2018 World Championships Division IA (winning gold at the 2018 tournament), 2014, 2015, 2016 and 2017 World Championships Division IB (winning silver at the 2015 and 2016 tournaments, being named the top played on the British team at the 2016 tournament and winning gold at the 2017 tournament) and at the 2019 World Championship.
