John Hughes (born March 18, 1954, in Charlottetown, Prince Edward Island) is a retired Canadian ice hockey defenceman.

Hughes started his National Hockey League career with the Vancouver Canucks in 1979. He also played with the Edmonton Oilers and New York Rangers. Previously, he had played in the World Hockey Association with the Phoenix Roadrunners, Cincinnati Stingers, Houston Aeros and Indianapolis Racers. He retired from hockey after the 1982 season.
