James Ross (born May 20, 1926 in Edinburgh, Scotland, United Kingdom and raised in Toronto, Ontario) is a retired professional defenceman. He played 62 games in the National Hockey League with the New York Rangers in the 1951-52 and 1952-53 seasons, scoring 2 goals and 11 assists.

He played junior hockey in Toronto with the De La Salle Academy Oaklands in 1944-45 and 1945-46. The next season Ross went back to Britain with the Perth Panthers.

Ross played senior hockey until 1951 when he got his chance with the Rangers. He played 51 games in 1951-52 and 11 games the next season. He then was sent to the Saskatoon Quakers of the Western Hockey League. Ross played there until his retirement in 1955.

Ross coached the Quakers for part of the 1955-56 season.
