James Gasseau (born May 4, 1966 in Carleton-sur-Mer, Quebec) is a retired Canadian defenceman.

He played junior hockey for the Drummondville Voltigeurs from 1983 to 1986, winning the Raymond Lagacé Trophy in 1983-84. The Buffalo Sabres chose him 123rd overall in the 1986 NHL Entry Draft.

Gasseau turned pro in 1986-87 with the Rochester Americans. He missed most of the season when he suffered a dislocated shoulder when checked by Ed Kastelic.

He returned to play for the Americans in 1987-88 and then played for the Canadian National Team in 1988-89. He then retired.

Gasseau is very much involved in youth hockey in southern California.
