The Ivy League, in college hockey, is a subset of the ECAC Hockey League. Its members are part of the Ivy League in all other sports, and are officially ECAC members in both Men's and Women's college hockey. The Ivy League itself sponsors a hockey championship, keeping statistics and standings based on games played amongst Ivy League members.

The University of Pennsylvania and Columbia University are the only two Ivy League schools which do not sponsor varsity hockey programs, although the Pennsylvania Quakers did play in both the ECAC and the Ivy League during the 1960s and 1970s.

Women's champions

In 1976, Brown would host the first ever Ivy League women's ice hockey tournament. The other competing schools were Cornell, Princeton and Yale. The Big Red would win the tournament. After the Ivy League schools joined the ECAC, the Ivy League title was awarded to the team with the best record of the Ivies in the conference.
