Iroquois Park Sports Centre

The Iroquois Park Sports Centre is an indoor/outdoor recreational centre located in Whitby, Ontario.  The facility contains six arenas as well as tennis courts, soccer fields, baseball and softball diamonds.  The largest of the arenas used to be home to the Whitby Fury of the Ontario Junior Hockey League and is currently the home of the Whitby Dunlops of Allan Cup Hockey.

The largest arena has a seating capacity of 2,500. Built in 1967 it's been the centre of the community of Whitby, and has expanded over the years. Pad 2 was added in the 1970s, and the other arenas were added up until the late 1990s, when the final 6 pad configuration was completed.

Pad 1 is known as the flagship arena, with 8 dressing rooms, seating for 2,500. The seats are plastic and coloured blue, yellow, and red. The wall is lined with bright red. Designed by the arena sponser, Scotiabank, a scotiabank logo sits at centre ice. The Whitby Wildcats minor hockey logo sits in the away teams end, and the Whitby Dunlops logo is on the home team's end. The scoreboard is nearly 30 years old, and very small situated at the home team's end. Dead pixels on the scoreboard make it hard to see penalty times. And be prepared to bring binoculars just to see the score. The arena is a little cold, but still comfortable. Watching a game at iroquois park when it's a full house could feel like a proffesional event however. I was there for the Silver Stick final in 2021, and there was probably close to 2,000 people in the arena, by far more than the Whitby Fury ever got at a game.

Pads 2-6 are very similar, all having a capacity of roughly 300, with the exception of pad 3 which has capacity of 500.

Iroquois Park Sports Centre certainly is an impressive venue, and one that Whitby locals could take pride in.
