History[]

The Inerprovincial Hockey League was a senior amateur league in eastern Canada from 1908 to 1910.

This league was rather unusual in that it included teams from eastern Canada's three largest cities - Ottawa, Montreal, and Toronto. Before (and after) senior amateur leagues were local and provincial. In fact there was never another senior amateur league with teams from these three cities or even from Toronto and Montreal. It was not until 1963-64 (55 years later) that there was even a junior league with teams from those two cities (the 1963-64 OHA Junior A Season).

This league's winner in 1908-09 was designated as the first winner of the Allan Cup.

Travel expenses and low interest as compared to the professional leagues doomed this league. It only survived two seasons. But from this league came the Interprovincial Hockey Union.
