Welcome to the IHW project Chronology of Hockey. This project aims to build complete and accurate all-time list of all the important dates in the history of ice hockey.

Who may participate in this project?[]

This project is open to everyone willing to participate.

How does it work?[]

You may have noticed through reading our articles on the Ice Hockey Wiki that there are pages for calendar years (2007, 2008...). These pages are the core of the Chronology of Hockey project. The aim of the project is extremely simple: fill those pages with pertinent events that occured during the year in the world of ice hockey.

How to participate?[]

Nothing is more simple. All the participants have to do is to edit those year pages so that when a major event occurs, it is added to our very own timeline. Please note that by major event are considered the following things: Gold medal games in Olympics, in World Championships (every level, women and men), a league championship win, a national cup win, the birth or death of an influential ice hockey person (be it players, coaches, GMs, etc.; please only add people who had a major impact on the sport domestically or internationally only; there are categories aiming to include every one), the foundation of a league or a club, player, club or league milestones (1000th point, 25th anniversary of existance of a club, for instance), controversial events and other events who may be deemed acceptable upon general agreement among the participants.

So, should you be aware of important dates our yearly articles don't mention yet (and as of now, there's a lot of these), please don't hesitate to edit the appropriate year arcticle to add it there.

Our timeline[]

This template is the main template for thew project - it allows a quick jump to any year through the history of hockey. So far, it begins with the year 1900, but it will have to be expanded to cover a fair part of the 1800s as well. If you create a new year arcticle, please be sure to use the same model as every other. And don't forget to include the timeline at the bottom of the page by adding the follwing code:
