Samantha Taylor Stortini was an ice hockey player for the Brown Bears. Her brother Zack Stortini, currently plays for the Edmonton Oilers of the National Hockey League.

Playing career[]

Stortini played ice hockey in high school with the Lockerby Composite Vikings girls hockey team[1]. She captained the squad and was the league’s leading scorer. In addition, Stortini participated with the Sudbury Lady Wolves Midget AA team (assistant captain for two years) and their Intermediate AA team. In her final year with the Lady Wolves, one of her teammates was future Olympic gold medallist Rebecca Johnston. She was a member of the Ontario Raiders All-Star team that played at a Quebec Tournament. She was named to the Quebec Tournament All-Star team.

NCAA[]

The 2007-08 season was Stortini’s first season with the Bears. As a freshman, she participated in every game and led the team with 30 blocks. In her NCAA debut, she scored her first point (versus Union College, October 26). Her first career goal was scored November 4, 2007 against the Connecticut Huskies. For the season, she finished with one goal and four assists. She was named an Assistant Captain for her sophomore season and ranked second on the club in assists with six, a career high. Her seven points ranked fourth on the team. On January 3, 2009, she had a season high two assists over Northeastern. Her 33 blocked shots led the team. Stortini would lead the Bears in blocks for the third consecutive season with 36 during the 2009-10 season.[2] In her senior season (2010-11), Stortini was named one of the team captains. At season’s end, she was honored as the Bears Most Valuable Player.
