North Island Capitals

The North Island Capitals are a men's Senior AA hockey team based out of Port Hardy and Port McNeill, British Columbia.  The team is a member of the West Coast Senior AA Hockey League.

The team would play several games for the 2016-17 season and be eligible to try to qualify for the 2017 Coy Cup.  The four teams in the WCSHL were paired of in two best-of-three series for an at-large berth in the tournament.  The Capitals would win their series by default over the Powell River Regals and qualify for the tournament.  The team would end up with an 0-3 record, finishing in fourth place and be eliminated in the round robin portion of the tournament.

For the 2017-18 season, the team would compile a  6-3-0 record against the other WCSHL teams and also play an exhibition game against the Vancouver Island University Mariners losing 3-2.  In the league playoffs they would defeated the South Island Knights two-games-to-none in the semifinals.  The team forfeited the final series (apparently, felling the team would not be competetive enough to justify the expense of the trip to Kelowna) to the Kelowna Sparta giving the Sparta a berth in the 2018 Coy Cup.
