James Hughes (b. May 12, 1906 in Webbwood, Ontario - d. January 4, 1983) is a retired Canadian professional ice hockey defenceman.

Hughes played junior hockey in Cobalt from 1923 to 1925. He turned pro with the Windsor Hornets in 1926-27.

He played 40 games in the National Hockey League for the Detroit Cougars in the 1929-30 season, scoring one assist.

Hughes retired in 1937.
