Gregory Norman Johnston (born January 14, 1965 in Barrie, Ontario) is a retired Canadian professional ice hockey defenceman. He played 187 games in the NHL, most of them for the Boston Bruins, but also a few for the Toronto Maple Leafs.
He played junior hockey for the Toronto Marlboros from 1982 to 1985 and was chose 42nd overall by the Boston Bruins in the 1983 NHL Entry Draft. Johnston also played for the gold medal-winning Canadian team at the 1985 World Junior Championship. While still a junior Johnston played in 21 games for the Bruins and scored 2 goals and 1 assist.
He turned pro for good with the Moncton Golden Flames in 1985-86 and also played 20 games for Boston. He became a Bruins full-timer in 1986-87 but his games played slipped to just 3 playoff games in 1987-88. While he played in 57 Bruins games in 1988-89 he went back down to 9 in 1989-90.
The New York Rangers traded Chris Nilan for him in June, 1990, and then turned around to trade him for Tie Domi and Mark LaForest to the Toronto Maple Leafs. The trade worked out poorly for the Leafs, as Johnston only played in 4 games over two season for Toronto.
In 1992 Johnston decided to try his luck in Europe, He played until 2001-02 in Germany and then finished off the 2001-02 season with MODO Hockey. He retired in 2002.
He played in 187 NHL games, scoring 26 goals and 29 assists.
