Binokor Tashkent (in Russian: ХК Бинокор Ташкент; originally Spartak Tashkent, Спартак Ташкент) was an ice hockey team that played from 1971 to 1988 in the Soviet hockey system. The team was based in Tashkent, the capital of Uzbekistan.

Achievements[]

History[]

Founded in 1971 as Spartak Tashkent, the team made its debuts in 1971-72 in the Klass A group 2 (currently known as the Vtoraya Liga). The team fared nicely for a first season, with a reasonable 4th place in the Vostok Zona (Zone East). The team would maintain top-half standings for its first five seasons, never finishing below the 5th place of the league. in 1974, the team is renamed Binokor Tashkent. In 1975-76, the team earned a promotion to the Klass A group 1 (former name of the Pervaya Liga), then the second highest league of the Soviet Union.

The team's stay in the Pervaya Liga lasted eight seasons, during which the team finished anywhere between 4th and 10th place in the league, until 1983-84, where the team finished dead last in the league (16th) with an awful record of 5 wins, 51 losses and 4 ties in 60 games. Binokor only scored a meager 157 goals that season, which is less than half of their total of the previous season (324), an all-time club record.

Tashkent's return to the Vtoraya Liga however only lasted one season, as the team finished first in the Vostok Zona with a 40-10-4 record and promoted back to the Pervaya Liga. This return to the second level of Soviet hockey lasted only two seasons, as the team relegated back to the Vtoraya Liga in 1987. After a poor 1987-88 season in the Vtoraya Liga, the team folded.
