Erika Vanderveer (born February 12, 1984) is a women's ice hockey player from Ontario that competed for the Ohio State Buckeyes women's ice hockey program. Currently, she competes for the Toronto Furies. Vanderveer is also an employee at The Hockey News.
Playing career[]
Vanderveer started playing boys hockey with the Bradford Bulldogs.[1] She competed for Team Ontario in 2001, and played for the gold medal winning team at the Women's Under-18 Hockey Challenge. In 2002, she led the Mississauga Jr. Chiefs of the PWHL to a provincial championship. In the same year, she was named Most Valuable Player of the Aeros tournament championship game. With the Jr. Chiefs, she would post 18 shutouts in 2002, and 17 in 2003.
NCAA[]
She made her debut with the Ohio State Buckeyes on November 15, 2003 versus the St. Cloud State Huskies and recorded a shutout. Vanderveer made 16 saves and was recognized as WCHA Rookie of the Week. On November 22, she earned her second career shutout as she blanked the Bemidji State Beavers. Vanderveer would start her NCAA career with a won loss record of 4-0-1. In a February 21, 2004 contest against the Minnesota Golden Gophers, she logged a season high 37 saves.
Vanderveer made 34 saves as Ohio State upset the Wisconsin Badgers women's ice hockey team in a 3-1 win on October 23, 2004. As a sophomore, she would start in 20 of 37 games, and accumulate a 10-8-1 won loss record. All eight of her losses came in WCHA conference play. Statistically, she spent 1210:39 minutes in net, while stopping saved 518 shots, with 64 goals allowed for a .890 save percentage. From January 8 to 28, 2005, she started in eight straight matches.
In a match versus the North Dakota Fighting Sioux women's ice hockey team on February 19. 2006, she recorded her first NCAA assist. She also earned her third shutout of the season in that game, as she stopped 34 saves in a series sweep against the Fighting Sioux.
