Smith was cut from the Gee-Gees in her first year of trying out for a position on the club roster. She successfully made the team in her second season and became an assistant captain. In her senior season of 2009-10, Smith would be named Gee Gees captain. Prior to the Ottawa Gee Gees, Smith played hockey for Nepean Midget AA in 2002-03 and competed for the Ottawa Roadrunners in 2003-04 season. Of note, Smith has also competed at the national level in both ball hockey and touch football. In 2010, Smith was awarded the CIS Marion Hilliard Award. The award is given to the student athlete best combining athletics, academics and community service.

Smith was the only player from Ottawa in 2009 to play for Canada at the World Ball Hockey Championships in the Czech Republic where they won the Gold medal. At the 2011 Street and Ball Hockey World Championships in Bratislava, Slovakia, she participated with former Gee-Gees teammate Fannie Desforges and would claim the silver in the tournament.[2] In 2013, Smith and Desforges claimed the Gold medal at the world Championship in St. John's Newfoundland.
