Andrea Switalski was an ice hockey player for Mount Allison University from 2007 to 2011. She was the first member of the Mounties to receive a CIS major award in women’s ice hockey.[1]

Playing career[]

Prior to joining the Mount Allison Mounties in 2007, Switalski played Midget AA with the Nepean Wildcats. During her senior season with the Mounties, she was named an assistant captain. In addition, she played in all 24 regular season contests and registered seven points (two goals and five assists). She was part of a defensive unit that finished third in the Atlantic conference for least goals allowed. The squad allowed 72 goals in 24 games for a goals against of 3.00.

In 2011, Switalski became the first member of the Mounties to receive a major CIS award in women's ice hockey. [2] She was awarded the Marion Hilliard Award. The critieria for the award is for a player who best exhibits outstanding balance between athletic achievement, academics, and community service.

Personal[]

While at Mount Allison, her involvement in the community included tutoring children in Grade 5 math, along with serving as a teaching assistant at Tantramar Regional High School. In addition, she was an instructor with the Sackville Minor Hockey Association, and served as a student therapist with the Mount Allison men’s soccer team.
