A Draft lottery is a lottery held to determine in which order the teams will select in the upcoming draft session.
NHL Draft LotteryEdit
The National Hockey League's draft lottery decides the order of selection for the first fourteen selections of an NHL Entry Draft. This lottery has been created to prevent teams from finishing dead last in order to secure the first pick, which would result in the team selecting the best averall young player and gaining an undue advantage in the following years.
The NHL's lottery is made so that only the last five finishers of the previous season may win the #1 pick; the remaining four take the next four spots. Then ranks number 6 through 14 are also awarded likewise among the remaining nine teams that failed to qualify for the playoffs.
