The Canton Kangaroos are men's and women's hockey teams representing the State University of New York of Technology at Canton. The school is located in Canton, New York. Both teams play out of the SUNY Canton Athletic and Recreation Center, the "CARC". which was completed in 2011.
The school chose the nickname Kangaroos in 2006 when the school was reclassified as a four year college. The unusual nickname was chosen with the logic that a Kangaroo can't go backwards they only move forward and are agressive animals and congregate in mobs and are able to adapt to situations
The nickname is shortened to the "Roos"
The SUNY Canton Athletic and Recreation Center also known as "The CARC" or "Roos House" opened in June of 2011. The rink was only part of the state of the art facility which also included a field house, fitness center, and swimming pool.
