Franchise history
2014-Present: Butte Cobras

The Butte Cobras are a junior team in the Western States Hockey League (WSHL). They play in Butte, Montana at the Butte Community Ice Center. The team was established as an expansion team for the 2014-15 season.

On April 4, 2017, it was announced that the owners of the team Michael and Kiomi Burks were donating the ownership of the team to the Butte Amateur Hockey Association (BAHA) which included all of the assets of the team including gear, electronic equipment and $300,000 worth of arena improvements made over the last few years.  The Burks' cited trauma from a plane crash in which they were involved in back in February of 2017.

On May 26, 2017 the North American 3 Hockey League announced that BAHA had purchased the Glacier Nationals and would be moving the team to Butte as the Butte Cobras.  Neither league website or the team website specified if the relocated NA3HL franchise would be a second team operated by the BAHA or if it was leaving the WSHL for the NA3HL..
