Brandon Smith

Brandon Smith (born February 25, 1973 in Hazelton, British Columbia) is an ice hockey defenceman, who last played in the Deutsche Eishockey Liga for the Straubing Tigers. He has played in 33 NHL games scoring 3 goals and 4 assists.

He played junior hockey for the Portland Winterhawks from 1989 to 1994 and was a two-time all-star. Smith was not drafted by any NHL team, and turned pro with the Dayton Bombers of the ECHL in 1994-95. He was the top defenceman in the league that year. The Detroit Red Wings noticed him and signed him after that season. However, his whole three seasons with Detroit was spent with the Adirondack Red Wings.

The Boston Bruins signed him as a free agent in 1998 and he finally got in some NHL time. Smith played in 30 games for the Bruins over three seasons and would only play three more with the New York Islanders in 2002-03.

After playing five seasons in the American Hockey League from 2002 to 2007, Smith left for Germany. He played two years for the Eisbaren Berlin and then joined the Straubing Tigers for the 2009-10 season.
