They were founded as the BSC Preussen in 1983 in the 2.Bundesliga, the second highest league in the country. In 1988 they won that league and were promoted to the Bundesliga. In 1994 they were one of the founding members of the Deutsche Eishockey Liga which replaced the Budesliga.
In 1995 they changed their name to the Preussen Devils and in 1996 became the Berlin Capitals.
They were relegated to the Regionalliga (the lowest league) in 2002 because of financial problems. They were promoted one level to the Oberliga in 2003.
