The Windsor Royals formerly the Avon River Rats are a Hockey Canada sanctioned junior C hockey team playing in the Nova Scotia Junior C Hockey League. The team was added to the league for the 2007-08 season. The team is based out of the Hants Exhibition Arena in Windsor, Nova Scotia.
A previous home rink for the team, the Newport and District Arena, located near Brooklyn in Hants County, collapsed under the weight of heavy snow on April 1, 2015. The building was deemed a total loss.
After an issue with the use of the team's logo came up during the 2018 off season, the team was renamed to the Windsor Royals after a previous team by the same name that had played in the Nova Scotia Junior B Hockey League from 1972 to 2011.[1]
