[edit] 2008 WC Qualifiers: more controversy

The 2008 qualifiers, the only possibility for Armenia to regain access to the World Championships, were extremely disappointing for the Armenians, who not only found themselves excluded from a participation in the Championships by an inspired Greek team, but also saw the two games they played forfeited due to passport problems. This time, it is a refusal by team members to show their passports on four different occasions upon International Ice Hockey Federation's request that had them declared forfeited. An IIHF rule states that players taking part in international competitions must show their passports to IIHF officials prior to the beginning of the tournament; in the case of the Armenians, it is reported that it was not done until the players took the ice. This offense caused their disqualification.
